Department of Pharmacy (6-Year Course)

Producing Pharmacists and Specialists in Handling Medicines

The program provides students with a wide range of knowledge and a solid skill base.
Through a comprehensive curriculum that incorporates general studies, we ensure that students develop the communication skills and rounded personality needed to work as a healthcare specialist. We also endeavor to provide our students with a strong moral grounding. With the demands of globalization in mind, we encourage our students to become bilingual pharmacists. To this end, we offer programs such as academic exchanges with School of Pharmacy, the University of Southern California in the United States.
In cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, we help students to develop their clinical skills by attending the lectures of medical researchers and healthcare professionals and by observing the front line of healthcare. Students can also experience team medicine through joint courses and practical training with medical and nursing students.
In cooperation with the Institute of Natural Medicine, students can learn about the fundamentals and practices of natural medicines-such as Japanese Kampo medicines-and the importance of integrating Eastern and Western medical systems.
In the Department of Pharmacy, we put an emphasis on developing students' research capabilities. In their fourth year, students begin the graduation research projects that will help them become research-capable pharmacists. Our aim is to produce pharmacists who can assist and lead drug discovery and development.
Students in the Department of Pharmacy will take a standard examination upon completion of their fourth year. Students who pass the examination will begin practical training from their fifth year.
Upon graduation, students receive a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree and qualify for the national pharmacist-licensing examination. Students may also enter the Graduate School and study cutting-edge clinical pharmacy and integrated medicine.
