Kyoritsu Toyama Pharmaceutical School
(the origin of the current School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) established.

1894
Kyoritsu Toyama Pharmaceutical School opened.

1897
Control of Kyoritsu Toyama Pharmaceutical School transferred to the city, forming Toyama City Municipal Pharmaceutical School.

1900
With permission from the Prefectural Governor, name changed to Toyama City Municipal Pharmaceutical Industry School of Toyama Prefecture.
1906
Control of the school transferred to the Prefecture, forming Toyama Prefectural Pharmaceutical Industry School.
1910
Toyama Prefectural Vocational School for Pharmacy established.

1920
The school became the Toyama National Vocational School for Pharmacy.

1949
Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Toyama University) established.
1975
Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University set up.

1978
Doctorate Program at the Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences set up.
1992
100-year anniversary since opening.
2004
Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University set up as a National University Corporation.

2005
30-year anniversary of the establishment of Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University.
With the amalgamation of three universities, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was restructured to form part of the University of Toyama.
The name of the Research Institute of Japanese and Kampo Medicines was revised, and the Institute of Natural Medicine was opened.
2006
The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was reorganized to form the Department of Pharmacy (six-year course) and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (four-year course).
The Graduate School was amalgamated and reorganized so that the Department for Pharmaceutical Research became the Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Education and the Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Research.
Within the Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences for Education, new programs were set up: the Master's Program (two-year course) and Ph.D. Program (three-year course) for graduates of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Ph.D. Program (four-year course) for graduates of the Department of Pharmacy.
2014
Special ceremony, commemorative lecture and commemorative event held to celebrate 120 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

2022
The Graduate School was reorganized and restructed. Graduate School of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Pharma-Medical Sciences, etc. were established.

Activities celebrating 120 years since establishment
In 2013 it was 120 years since the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toyama. Led by Tsuneo Imanaka (Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the time), various activities celebrating 120 years since establishment were planned. Contributions were received from various donors so that the education and research environment of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences could be improved and so that present students and former students could interact. As part of this project, renovations were carried out on the research building of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to improve earthquake resistance and functionality, and this was completed in March 2014. In May 2014, a commemorative plaque with a list of the names of the donors was installed in the entranceway to the Faculty, with a commemorative lecture and event held to celebrate 120 years of establishment. In December 2016, a commemorative magazine was published.
